The Provincial Manpower Training Center (PMTC) has intensified the conduct of its industrial based training programs in line with Governor Lilia G. Pineda’s directive to develop effective strategies that would address the labor demand and increase the employment capability of trainees in Pampanga.
This was learned from Francis V. Maslog, PMTC officer-in-charge, who said that the Governor directed the conceptualization and implementation of effective industrial-based training programs and ensure that skills development activities properly match the labor demand of both local and overseas companies.
“The demand is high for industrial skilled workers such as welders, carpenters, plumbers, painters and automotive body repairmen and through proper training and networking with stakeholders, we would make sure that the right man for the required job will be available in the province,” Maslog said.
He added that the Governor also envisions a more accessible and effective skills training program and aims to establish one training center in each of the four districts in the province to make sure that effective skills training programs are readily accessible to her constituents.
The PMTC conducts free in-house technical courses which conform to the curriculum-based methodologies of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Maslog said that among the in-house technical courses offered by the center are automotive servicing technology, a six month technical course which is divided into gas and diesel mechanic and automotive electricity; data machine operations; computer hardware servicing, and consumer electronics.
He reported that from July 2010 to May 2011, the PMTC trained 150 students on automotive servicing technology; 111 on data encoding; 185 on computer hardware servicing; 133 on consumer electronics; 90 on hairdressing; 29 on industrial plumbing; and 30 on building wiring installation.
The PMTC also conducted community based technical skills trainings to bring needed training services directly to the interested trainees as in the case of shielded metal arc welding for 41 beneficiaries conducted in barangay Tabuyuc, Apalit town.
Maslog further explained that the Governor also issued instructions that all graduates of industrial training courses shall undergo on the-job trainings in various infrastructure projects of the provincial government.
Upon completion of the trainings, the graduates further undergo job induction program conducted by the PMTC during which inputs on designing and preparing personal data sheet, tips on job hunting, application and interview, labor law and rights and privileges of employees and the five safety standards in the work place are provided.
The PMTC, in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Management Unit, has also incorporated sessions on disaster preparedness in the training programs it conducts to better equip the trainees with needed knowledge and skills on such eventualities.
While the PMTC trainings are free of charge, financial assistance totaling P76,100.00 for the transportation expenses of the students were also provided by the local government units of Macabebe, Sta. Ana, Candaba, Lubao, Mexico, Angeles City, Sta. Rita, Floridablanca, Arayat and Board Member Daniel Henson from July 2010 to May 2011.
Recently, the regional offices of Housing and Laud Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) donated their unserviceable equipment which are now being used for technical training purposes of the center, Maslog ended. Pampanga PIO)
